For optimal use of an equatorial mount, it is essential to orient it so that its main axis is parallel to the Earth's axis of rotation. In the Northern Hemisphere, this means it should point towards the celestial pole, located not far from the North Star.

Setting Up

The setup can be done quickly by roughly orienting the mount's axis towards the North Star, which is sufficient for classic observations. However, for increased accuracy, a polar finder is necessary.

Operation of the Polar Finder

The Sky-Watcher polar finder is a small telescope on which the actual position of the celestial North Pole is engraved according to the date. This allows for precise and quick setup.
