ZWO AM5 quatorial mount with Harmonic Drive reducers
With the Harmonic Drive AM5 quatorial mount, ZWO offers a transportable mount for astrophotography. The mount, which weighs less than 5 kg, can carry telescopes weighing up to 13 kg without counterweight. With a counterweight and the counterweight bar (not included), the mount can even carry telescopes weighing up to 20 kg. Several years of development work and various patents are the basis of this exciting mount.

Many features and easy to use
The AM5 can be used in equatorial and azimuthal mode. For astrophotography, we use the quatorial mode. The mount must be oriented with maximum precision towards the celestial pole. For visual observation or photography of the Moon and plants, we can make do with the azimuthal mode. In this case, the mount is ready for use in a few minutes. The status indicator always shows the mode the mount is in: red indicates equatorial mode and green azimuthal mode.

No more need for counterweights
Normally, standard mounts need counterweights to balance the weight of the telescope. This is the only way to guarantee impeccable operation. The AM5, which uses robotic technology, does not need a counterweight up to a telescope weight of 13 kg. The AM5 is therefore lighter, more compact and easier to use. Only for heavier telescopes do we recommend using counterweights to keep the mount and tripod balanced.

Guarantee of uniform monitoring
ZWO checks and measures each AM5 mount before delivery and guarantees a PE (Periodic Error = periodic error) of less than +/-20 arc seconds. The periodic error occurs very slowly, so the autoguider has enough time to correct it. The mount of course has an ST-4 interface for autoguiding. It is also possible, via ASIAir or other software, to reduce the EP electronically.

Usable anywhere on Earth
As you would expect from a true travel mount, the AM5 can be used anywhere on Earth, from the equator to the poles. The frame will fit in any piece of luggage you take on a plane.

No more cables thanks to WiFi
All the functions of the mount can be controlled via the smartphone. The AM5 of course works particularly well with ASiair from ZWO. With ASiair, everything from the camera to the mount to the autoguider can be controlled by an app via a smartphone or tablet. It is also possible to control the mount without a smartphone using the racket. The racket also, of course, works wirelessly.
