Like their predecessors, the GEM28 mounts are designed for portability, weighing only 4.5 kg while supporting a payload of 12.7 kg, which is an incredible ratio of 2.8 between the weight of the mount and the payload. iOptron has achieved this goal through design methods developed to reduce the mass of mounts in their CEM mount family. The German equatorial versions were created to satisfy consumers who prefer a more traditional mount and to operate at higher latitudes.

Building on the heritage of previous GEM models, they have added features for more convenience and functionality. A positive lock gear engagement system (easy to use even with gloves), built-in Wi-Fi for unmatched connectivity, and permanently recorded periodic error correction (PPEC) for repeating optimal PEC training sessions. In terms of functionality, the GEM28 provides precise pointing and accurate tracking. The GEM28 sets a new standard for compact GoTo German equatorial mounts.

The GEM28 is equipped with the latest advanced GOTONOVA® GOTO technology, making it one of the most powerful and precise GoTo mounts available. The library of 212,000 objects ensures that you will never run out of targets to view or photograph. The Go2Nova® manual controller is intuitive to use and its large 4-line LCD screen simplifies the process of setting up telescopes and locating objects.

The GEM28A mount features an integrated electronic polar finder known as iPolar. This tool ensures accurate telescope alignment, even when the North Star is obscured. It comes with a robust 1.5" stainless steel tripod.
